Declined  Perkins Park Pass Purchases

Explanation of Indicator: The County of Marquette manages the Perkins Park Campground and the Big Bay Harbor of Refuge located in Big Bay, Michigan.  Use of the recreational facilities is directly impacted by weather conditions.

Two types of passes are available for Perkins Park, daily use and seasonal.  Daily passes are dependent on weather conditions.  Until 2011, daily passes were collected via an “honor system”.  Daily pass purchases have increased substantially with the construction of our new park office at the main gate. While the number of seasonal passes decreased slightly, the number of daily passes increased more.

Declined  Big Bay Harbor

Explanation of Indicator:
The County of Marquette manages the Perkins Park Campground and the Big Bay Harbor of Refuge located in Big Bay, Michigan.  Use of the recreational facilities is directly impacted by weather conditions. The use of the Harbor is also affected by the water depth of the harbor.  Shallow water created from the infill of sand and lack of opportunity for dredging reduces the type of boats that can use our Harbor.  The years 2007 and 2008 are good examples of how the depth of water can impact use.
