TB testing is available by appointment on immunization clinic days. MCHD offers two types of TB testing:
TB (Tuberculosis) Skin Test
A TB skin test may be used to find out if you are infected with TB bacteria. You can get a skin test at the health department or at your doctor's office. TB skin tests are available at the health department on immunization days. You will need to return 48 -72 hours after the test is placed, to have the results read.
What is the cost of a TB skin test? The charge for the TB skin test is $15.00. Employers who require a TB skin test for employment may set up an account with the health department for billing.
TB Blood Test
The TB blood test, also called an Interferon Gamma Release Assay (IGRA) is a way to find out if you have TB germs in your body. The TB blood test can be done instead of a TB skin test and only requires one appointment. MCHD utilizes the T-Spot TB blood test. Results are available within 48-72 hours and do not require a return visit.
What is the cost of the TB blood test? A T-Spot TB test costs approximately $100 and payment is due at the time of service. MCHD will supply clients with a receipt to submit to insurance as many insurances may cover the cost of this test.
