Research has shown that breast milk is the very best food for babies in their first year of life. A major goal of the WIC program is to improve nutrition for infants, so it's no surprise that WIC encourages and supports breastfeeding!
- WIC mothers who choose to breast feed receive support, education and follow up through the Peer Counseling Program.
- Breastfeeding mothers are eligible to participate in the WIC program longer than non-breastfeeding mothers.
- Women who exclusively breast feed their infants qualify for an enhanced food package.
- Breastfeeding mothers may qualify for a breast pump through the WIC program.
