The health statistics of Marquette County have both good news and bad. The good news is that the over-all health of the population is good! The bad news is that not everyone shares in this good health. Fortunately, many individuals and organizations in the County are working on improving the health of all our residents through participating on one or more health coalitions.
In 1996, the Rural Health Project held community meetings to define areas of primary health concerns. They choose three primary focus areas: Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment, Access to Health Care for All, and 0-5 Early Childhood Health Issues. Emergency care was also identified as a needed.
Today, The Marquette County Board of Health and the Marquette County Family Coordinating Council review health issues and establish priority areas. The below Coalitions address these issues as well as other important health issues that have been identified as crucial to the health needs of our residents. Each of these Coalitions has contact information and are in need of members.
- Substance Abuse Prevention
- Marquette County Tobacco Free Community Coalition
- Upper Peninsula Diabetes Outreach Network
- Medical Care Access Coalition
- Marquette & Alger Counties Youth Activity Partnership
