A variety of preventative initiatives are undertaken to educate the public about disease risk reduction. Our efforts are designed to meet the Nation's Health Objectives for the Year 2010 (Healthy People 2010) and improving Michigan's twenty-one Critical Health Indicators. A major collaborative efforts include increasing seatbelt and child restraints in cars, reducing substance abuse including tobacco; increase physical activity and reduce obesity. Several collaborative grants in the past year have brought additional resources and programming into our county and U.P. region.
As part of our assessment duties, we have developed a website for local, state, and national health statistics (put stat link here). In addition, we assist in coordination of several health coalitions including: Marquette County Substance Abuse and Violence Prevention Coalition (MC2); Marquette County Tobacco Free Coalition; Marquette County Emergency Preparedness; Active Living Marquette County Task Force; and the Upper Peninsula Coalitions for Substance Abuse Prevention. These and other Health Coalitions are listed in our website's Coalition page.
