Public Swimming Pools and Hot Tubs
PUBLIC SWIMMING POOLS AND SPAS
The public swimming pool and spa program is conducted by the Marquette County Health Department (MCHD) under contract with the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ). The requirements for construction and operation of public swimming pools and spas fall under the MDEQ Swimming Pool Rules and are State law.
The Marquette County Health Department (MCHD) conducts annual inspections on all licensed public swimming pools and hot tubs. Inspections evaluate pool safety equipment and procedures, physical facilities, mechanical systems and water quality for each individual pool and hot tub. MCHD conducts quarterly sampling for bacteriological analysis, disinfectant chemistry and pH. Pool operators are required to submit monthly operational reports to MCHD for review. These reports are submitted on forms provided by the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality and record water chemistry on a daily basis.
