Marquette County's Superior Environmental Health (SEH) Code requires a permit for the construction or major alteration of all on-site sewage treatment systems. Construction criteria are established by this code. An application and appropriate fee for the construction of a sewage treatment system must be submitted to the Environmental Health (EH) Division. The permit for the construction of a sewage treatment system must be issued by the EH Division before a building permit will be issued. Construction inspections are performed by EH Division staff to insure that minimum design specifications and required isolation distances are met. Systems may not be buried until an inspection by the EH Division is made. Due to weather conditions, no site evaluations, nor sewage treatment system installations, shall occur between the dates of December 1 and March 31, except to abate a public health nuisance.
