The Marquette County Health Department is a branch of county government ultimately responsible to the nine-member County Board of Commissioners. The Board of Commissioners appoints the seven member Board of Health which is responsible for establishing policies, setting department priorities, overseeing activities, approving monthly expenditures, and insuring that the public health needs of the community are adequately addressed.
The Health Department is directed by a Health Officer appointed by the Marquette County Board of Commissioners and approved by the Michigan Department of Public Health. He is assisted in managing the Department by an Administrator, Finance Officer and support staff within the Finance and Administrative Services Division, as well as a Medical Director and Division Directors.
