Today the smoke stack from the mill still stands over the town and provides a landmark for Lake Superior boaters. Big Bay is nestled in the foothills of the Huron Mountains, overlooking Lake Independence and Lake Superior. The wooded terrain in the area is full of beautiful streams, waterfalls, and excellent Trout fishing. Perkins Park lies on the west shore of Lake Independence, well known for its ample supply of Jumbo Perch, Walleye, Small Mouth Bass, and Northern Pike.
