The Sheriff is an elected officer responsible for the planning, administration and direction of the Sheriff’s Office. The Sheriff oversees all departmental operations, including the road patrol, detective division, special operations, criminal and civil process, prisoner transport, court security, and operation of the county jail, including the constitutional and statutory provisions relating to the care and custody of inmates.
The Sheriff is also responsible for the short and long-range planning of the department, including developing and implementing new and revised policies and directing and participating in all administrative functions of the department.
He is responsible for all departmental programs and coordinates department activities with area and state law enforcement agencies, as well as arranging and overseeing special service contracts within the county as appropriate.
