The County Mine Inspector is an elected official serving in counties which have mines. The term of Mine Inspector is four years.

Mine Inspector duties/responsibilities include:

  • checks fences around caving grounds and abandoned mines to ensure that they are properly maintained
  • visits active mines to check for safety violations
  • checks for dangerous areas at sand and gravel pits
  • responds to requests from county residents to inspect areas of subsidence discovered on their property
  • helps educate the public about the dangers that may exist in the the fenced caving grounds
